Phena Squires, 97, of Lake Ann passed away April 8, 2018 at Munson Medical Center with her family by her side.
Phena was born on September 28, 1920 in Prattville to the late Roy and Grace (Harris) Black.
Phena married the love of her life, William Byron Squires on September 29, 1940 at her family farm in Steamburg.
In 1945 they moved north to Lake Ann where they built their log home. Phena was a caregiver and worked for a short time as a nurses aid and then full time as a wonderful mom and grandma.
In her free time Phena enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful pieces including tablecloths, doilies and barbie dresses. She enjoyed spending time out doors and also liked to cook. Her favorite activity was spending time with family whom she cherished. In 1996, William passed away and Phena assumed the role of family matriarch. She lived independently until the age of 96 and will be greatly missed.
Phena was preceded in death by her husband William, parents, son Ronald, grandson Scott, sisters Agnes and Cleona and son-in-law Dan Herringa.
Phena is survived by her daughter Debbie (Barney) Hunter, daughter Jan Herringa and daughter-in-law Kay Squires; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and one on the way due in the fall.
The memorial service celebrating Phena's life will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior at Lake Ann United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Lake Ann United Methodist Church Women, the Lake Ann Food Pantry or to the Almira Township Lakefront Park.
