Traverse City-Phyllis Marie Bishop, 83, of Traverse City, died Friday afternoon, September 13, 2013 at Munson Medical Center, comforted by her children.

Born February 7, 1930, at home in Sherman, she was one of three children born to the late James Leroy "Roy" and Maude (Clark) Coger. On November 12, 1949, she married the love of her life, Chester E. Bishop Jr., who died on November 7, 2009.

Phyllis was a long time member of Fellowship Church, where she enjoyed interacting with others and participating in various activities.

Prior to her retirement in 1995, Phyllis was employed by Wilhelm's Department Store and then later served as a billing clerk for WTCM. While working at Wilhelm's, she cultivated many lasting friendships with her co-workers as well as customers.

She was regarded as a gifted Photographer and excelled at all crafts. Phyllis also enjoyed reading and spending time at the lake communicating with nature.

Phyllis was a wonderful and loving mother to her five loving children who survive; Brian (Nancy) Bishop of Grand Rapids; daughters, Lindsey (Robert) Geiger of Grawn, Teresa Pickard of Grawn, Robyn Bishop of Traverse City and Kelly (Phil) Baumann of Interlochen; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; along with her brother Glen (Ruby) Coger of Mesick and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Coger.

The Bishop family will receive friends at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jake Thomas officiating.

Following cremation burial will take place at Antioch Cemetery near Mesick.
