Phyllis Irene Kuemin, 91, of Traverse City , passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at her home
Phyllis was born on Monday, August 18, 1924 to the late Raymond and Orpha (Cox) Bova in Buckley. She graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1943. On Saturday, September 4, 1948, she married Lawrence J. Kuemin. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2014.
Prior to her retirement, Phyllis had been employed by TCAPS for 20 years, serving at Sabin School, first as a lunch room aide and then as a secretary in the office. For many years, Phyllis and Larry were treasurers for Sheffer Collet Employees Credit Union. Phyllis enjoyed making wonderful pies, "digging" in her gardens, knitting and being involved with the UAW Retirees for Monday night bingo. She really enjoyed bowling and met her future husband Larry while bowling. She also bowled with her good friends Phyllis, Ruby and Dorothy for over 50 years on the same league sponsored by Davis Electric. Phyllis was very proud of her 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and they all loved her dearly.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Richard (Chris) Kuemin of Boise, ID, James (Gwen) Kuemin of Watervliet, Jeanne (Bill) Rokos and Thomas (Debbie) Kuemin, all of Traverse City; her grandchildren, Nancy Kuemin and Serdar Yonak, Nicole and Scott Drews, Angelika and Miro Szygula, Arthur and Amy Kuemin, Kyle and Amy Rokos, Jill and Jason Gilmore, Annie and Robert Lothschutz, Carly and Bob Smith, Michael and Rebekah Kuemin; and great-grandchildren, Sabine, Nathan, Aryne, Gavin, Rachel, Sebastian, Millie, Malachi, Brody, Reece, Remy, Nicholas, Audrey, Lily, Casimir, Peter, Roan, Nora and Cataleya. In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother Robert.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 until 8 PM Friday, Sept. 11 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place at 10 AM Saturday, Sept. 12, also at the funeral home, with Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
