TRAVERSE CITY — Ralph Alphard Case Jr, 98, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.Ralph was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Chicago to the late Ralph A. and Elizabeth A. (Ruhno) Case. He married Laura M. Meyers on March 29, 1946, in Benton Harbor. They were happily married 64 years.Prior to his Army service he owned and ran his own fruit delivery business in the Benton Harbor area.Ralph honorably served our country in the Army during World War II. He was trained as an electrician and helped set up hospitals and served as rear support for the troops in the European theater in Belgium and France.After his discharge from the service, he became a licensed journeyman electrician and carpenter.In 1955, as members the National Grange, Ralph became the Master and Laura the Lecturer for the Pottowatomie Grange #722 in Benton Harbor.In 1961, Ralph, Laura and their two children moved from the Benton Harbor area to Traverse City and settled on Silver Lake. As a licensed electrician and carpenter he was employed by a number of local contractors, helping to build numerous homes and commercial buildings in the area.After retiring from the construction trade, Ralph most of all enjoyed working around the family property on Silver Lake. In his spare time he liked to collect stamps and coins. He delighted in giving his grandkids tractor rides.Ralph is survived by his wife Laura; two sons, Roger (Robin) Case and Brian (Kelly) Case, both of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Nichole, Christine, Megan and Kyle; and many other friends.Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Alice.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Church of the Living God, 1514 Birmley Road in Traverse City.
