Randy L. Dobson

Randy Dobson, 69, passed away on November 19th, 2025. He was born on March 13, 1956, in Traverse City, Randy was the beloved son of Margaret and Ray Dobson. From childhood on, Randy felt most at home in the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, two-tracking, snowmobiling, and spending as much time as possible in the woods. Nature was his lifelong sanctuary and greatest joy. Randy led a long and diverse career shaped by curiosity, skill, and personality. He began as a radio announcer at WTCM and WBNZ in Frankfort, where his voice became familiar to many. He later worked as a butcher at Giant Super Market and Max Bauer, generously sharing his knowledge and teaching coworkers the tricks of his trade. In 2003, he followed his passion for outdoor work and opened his own lawn care business, which he proudly operated until 2017. His dedication, strong work ethic, and love of being outside made the business a perfect fit. Outside of work, Randy found joy in many interests. He enjoyed making his own meat and jerky snacks, watching NASCAR, and cheering for MSU football. He was a member of the 4-Wheel Club and loved taking his Jeep out on adventures. He played on a softball team, cherished the companionship of his dogs, and was known for quick wit and impeccable comedic timing—traits that made him unforgettable to those around him. Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jerrine; and his niece, Cathy. He is survived by his son, Kevin Dobson, and fiancée, Kristin Wilson; his sister, Jan Jachalke and David Flynn. He is also survived by his niece, Cari Wells; his grand-nieces, Olivia Cox and Avery Wells; and his loyal best friend, Buddy. Randy will be remembered as a devoted family man, a proud father, a loyal friend, and a fun-loving uncle. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched all who knew him, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. A service to honor Randy’s life will take place on Saturday, December 13th, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior, at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City following the service, with a luncheon to follow the burial at the Traverse City VFW Post #2780. Memorial contributions may be directed towards Munson Hospice, Cherryland Humane Society, and the Father Fred Foundation.
