Raymond "Ray" Warnes, 76, of Maple City passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on October 1, 2023.
Ray was born on May 31, 1947, in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Gilbert and Elsie (Petroskey) Warnes. He was the second eldest of twelve children, two preceded him in death. Ray was a graduate from Glen Lake Schools and attended Grand Valley State University where he played basketball for the Lakers. He started his career in marine patrol and was eventually hired as a deputy sheriff for the Leelanau County Police Department. After years of civil service, he hung up his badge and began working at the family-owned business, Leelanau Redi-Mix.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betty) Flaska of 54 years, their two children Trevor and Tricia (Dave) Suchland, five grandchildren, Gage, Christian "CJ", Drew, Mercedes and Mya and many sisters, brother, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ray was a simple man; he didn't need a whole lot and was grateful for what he had. He enjoyed being in the great outdoors and was quite the storyteller. He truly loved growing up in northern Michigan, which he called God's country. Ray was often referred to as "The World Famous" but was better known to his family as the "cookie monster". In his spare time Ray enjoyed jumping in his pick-up truck and driving around the county looking for deer and running into people he knew. His hobbies included hunting, campfires, bird watching, golfing, bowling, ice fishing, and taking trips to the U.P. with his son and close friends. But Ray's true passions were boating and being on the water. When the sun was out, you could often find him floating somewhere on a lake working on his tan.
He will be dearly missed by his loving family and always remembered in their hearts.

The graveside services will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Philip Neri Cemetery followed by lunch in the Church Hall.
