Rena Louise Wurm, 87, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Munson Medical Center.
Rena was born on Tuesday, January 07, 1930 to the late Angus H. and Louise M. (Carpenter) Lautner in Traverse City. She attended Traverse City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1947.
On Saturday, September 23, 1950, at the Rectory of St. Francis Catholic Church, Rena married Robert Edward Wurm. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Rena was a member of St. Francis Parish. She especially enjoyed raising roses, gardening, dancing a good polka and camping. Rena particularly enjoyed sitting on her porch, which was clearly marked with her sign "Rena's Porch", On the back side of that sign were the words "go easy" which Rena said to everyone as they left her home or would finish a visit with one of her porch visitors.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved family; sons Steven (Brenda) Wurm and Randall (Anna) Wurm; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Rhinnon Bunek and her son Parker Bunek of Istanbul, Turkey, Olivia Claire Wurm of Chicago, Justin (Ashley) Kerns and their children Payton, Andrew and Sydney and Grant Wurm, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Rena was preceded in death by an infant son; her son Gregory O'Hara, sister Ruth Erickson and brothers Marvin and Emery Lautner.
Visitation for Rena will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the Rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church with visitation at the church one hour prior to the mass. The Rev. Father Ken Stachnik and The Rev. Fr. Ben Rexroat will preside at the mass. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
