Rex L. Vandebogart

Rex L VanDeBogart, 73, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Medilodge of Traverse City. Rex was born on June 4, 1946 in Traverse City to the late Everett and Esther (Dunlop) VanDeBogart. He married the love of his life Jeanne Allen on July 17, 1965 in Cadillac. Rex had been employed with Lear Corporation retiring in 2009 after 23 years of service. Prior to Lear Corp. he had worked for Kroger for 11 years. He was a very active member of East Bay Calvary Church. He was the director of the AWANA children's ministry, a Deacon on the church board and possibly best known as the front door greeter and usher at East Bay Calvary. In his spare time Rex enjoyed bass fishing and surf fishing while in Florida. He dabbled in woodworking and had a passion for Traverse City history, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Above all, he will always be remembered for his deep faith and love for the Lord Jesus Christ and his family.
Rex is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne, a son, Randy VanDeBogart and a daughter, Becky (Scott) Johansson and three grandchildren; Magnus, Marta and Maxx Johansson. Also surviving are a sister, Joyce Stricker, a brother, Bill VanDeBogart as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jack VanDeBogart, nephew Kevin VanDeBogart, sister-in-law Janet VanDeBogart, brother-in-law Julius Stricker and mother and father-in-law Everett J. and Phyllis Allen.
A funeral service honoring Rex will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, July 12, 2019 at East Bay Calvary Church, 2225 Hammond Road East, Traverse City, MI 49686. Pastor Brian Conover and Dr. Kendale Dennis will co-officiate.
