WILLIAMSBURG — Rhea Mae Swan, 91, of Williamsburg, and a lifelong resident of the Traverse City area, passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at her home.Rhea was born on Tuesday, July 1, 1919, to the late Stephen and Mary "Maude" (Umlor) Lautner in Traverse City. On Sept. 4, 1938, in Traverse City, she married Ray Swan, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2001.A dental assistant and office manager prior to her retirement, Rhea worked for many years in the offices of Dr. Kent Wright and later for Dr. Wes Schultz. In her leisure time, she and Ray enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing, but Rhea's favorite sport was water skiing, which she enjoyed into her 70s. She and Ray enjoyed square dancing and playing cards. Rhea also loved to cook and was famous for her pies. Her YouTube presentation has over 5,000 views from around the world (keywords: Rhea apple pie or Rhea cherry pie). Her upbeat and vibrant spirit won the hearts of all who came in contact with her. Rhea will always be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was generous with her love and with the time she spent with family.Rhea is survived by her daughter, Barbara Zue, of Vashon Island, (Seattle) Wash.; and her son, Richard (Suzanne) Swan, of Reno, Nev. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Bruce Zue, Debbie (Tom) Rossman and Brian (Connie) Zue, all of Seattle, Stephen (Ashley) Swan, of Reno, Nev., and Sarah (Eric) Brown, of Truckee, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Rhea was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Carl and Gerald; a sister, Lucille Widrig; and her son-in-law, Dick Zue. Visitation for Rhea will take place from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, also at the funeral home, with the Rev.
