Richard Daniel Bellows, 68, of Thompsonville, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 24, 2018 at his home.
Dan was born on Monday, February 27, 1950 to Richard and Alice (Crego) Bellows in Traverse City. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Dan served our country as a member of the U. S. Army. For over 30 years, he had worked for the government, mainly in maintenance for the U. S. Postal Service.
A bit of a curmudgeon, Dan had a unique sense of humor that touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was a problem solver and a lover of the open road. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Soft Tail Classic and would spend four to six weeks riding through the West, visiting friends along the way. Dan enjoyed meeting his Post Office friends for breakfast every Tuesday and enjoyed his sharing group at the VA office. Above everything, he had a tremendous love for his grandchildren and his family.
Dan is survived by his mother, Alice Bellows Campeau of Traverse City; his children Tabitha (Don) Huffman of Georgia, Brian (Jill) Bellows of Bend, OR, Ryan Bellows of Traverse City and Leah (Will) Fleming of Fife Lake. Also surviving are his six grandchildren; his siblings Bonnie (Robert) Yagle, Barbara Patterson and Cheryl Fletcher-Sanford, all of Traverse City; many nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Pat Bellows of Fife Lake. Dan was preceded in death by his father and his brother Ronald.
Visitation for Dan will take place at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 29 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The service celebrating his life will begin at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with full military honors. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.
