Richard "Dick" W. Campbell, 87, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 surrounded by loving family.
He was born on April 25, 1931 to parents Waldron "Rusty" Campbell and Dorothy Forton in Traverse City. He was a lifelong resident of Traverse City. Dick honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War. His service was recognized with a bronze star with a letter V combat infantry badge. After his time in the service, Richard remained active in the VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
On February 26, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lila Chandler at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City, they celebrated over 49 years of marriage together. Richard and Lila enjoyed traveling and camping, notably traveling to Alaska. He will be fondly remembered for his love of hunting and fishing.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter Linda Doornbos, granddaughters: Heather (Furlie) Hensley, Jennifer Doornbos, and Katie (Zach) Franklin, and great-granddaughter Ali Hensley. One sister, JoAnn (Earl) Moss, also a sister-in-law Tari Moore, and fond uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son Dave, and sister Yvonne Bonney.

A visitation for Richard will take place Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City. Funeral service honoring Richard will take place on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, officiating will be Pastor Chris Lane.
