Richard Dandridge "Rick" Arnold, 79, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, in Traverse City, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 6, 1946, Rick lived a life defined by love, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Jan; their daughters, Carrie and Meg (George Gray); and his cherished grandchildren: AnnaLaura, Michael, Jeana, Avalon, and Milo. He also leaves behind his sister, Barbara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Mary Arnold, as well as his brothers, Jim and Bill.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Rick and his brother Bill owned Northern Auto Parts until they sold the business to Auto Wares. He then worked for Auto Wares throughout Michigan until he retired.
A man of boundless energy and enthusiasm for life, Rick was an avid golfer and tennis player who found joy on the greens and courts. He also loved sailing and treasured time spent with his family above all else. Known for his active lifestyle and generous spirit, Rick was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His warmth and kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Rick remained active until just a month before receiving an unexpected cancer diagnosis. Despite the rapid progression of the disease that ultimately claimed his life, he faced this final chapter surrounded by the love of his family—a testament to the deep bonds he nurtured throughout his life.
May Rick's memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Memorial visitation will be held on April 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
