Richard M. Daniels, 82, of Wayland, and formerly a resident of Traverse City, died Monday, May 8, 2017.
Dick was born on August 13, 1934 in Grand Rapids, the son of Harold and Gladys (McCombs) Daniels. Following graduation from high school, he honorably served in the U. S. Air Force and the National Guard SSN-Aviation Unit. Dick worked for many years as a police officer for the Imlay City department and then as a Lapeer County Deputy. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, loved to fish, spent 30 years volunteering with the Cherry Festival and was a member of the Shema Israel Synagogue and Church of the Living God. Dick also was a life member of the North American Fish Club, the North American Hunting Club as well as being a member of Bassmasters.
Dick is survived by his children, Rhea Jacobussi (Raymond Brand) of Allegan; Janet Dillon, Mary Bishop, Debbie Steed and Dan Smith, all of Hasings, Ginnie Mar, Kenneth Lawrence (Amber) Daniels of Traverse City, Robert A. Daniels of Grand Rapids, Timothy Allen Daniels of Marquette, Marc Smith of Lansing and his grandchildren, Raymond Brand, Daniel Jacobussi, Sarah Dillon, Nicole Holland, Michael Holland, Adam and Amanda Bishop, Joseph, Dominic and William Steed, Lexis and Stone Smith, Kellie, Erica and Joel Basile, Blake and Marilee Daniels, Roman Daniels, Preston, Gannon and Crawford Daniels, Chloe Smith and many great grandchildren. Dick is also survived by his sister, Vivian Kishman of Marne. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Kimberly A. Basile.
Visitation for Dick will take place Friday, May 12 from 5 until 7 p.m. at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 13 at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate.
