Elmwood - Richard Dorland, 80 of Elmwood Township passed away at his home on October 2, 2013.
Richard was born on November 2, 1932 in Highland Park to the late Jack and Ruth (Gruenwald) Dorland.
Richard honorably served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War.
At the age of 18 he began working in the Steel Industry and retired from Great Lakes Steel after 40 plus years.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also was an excellent woodworker and crafted several ducks. Dick was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy, grandson-in-law Jeremy Jelinek and brother William "Bill" Dorland.
Richard is survived by his children Robert Allen (Vicki Robertson) Dorland of South Gate, daughter Karen Marie (Tom) Britton of Elmwood, David Richard Dorland of Central Lake and Michael William Dorland of Central Lake, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and former wife Rita Dorland.
Family services were held on Saturday October 5, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. Memorial Contributions in memory of Richard may be directed to Jeremy's Fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Per his wishes cremation has taken place.
