He spent his first years in New York City and on the grounds of Cranbrook Science Institute, Bloomfield Hills. Dick served his country in his "adopted" state of Texas as a member of the United States Air Force. He married Barbara Merrill Poor, a saint and the love of his life, on June 30, 1956. Dick and Barbara resided in Royal Oak, Michigan. After his retirement from Fisher Scientific in 1985 they moved to Leland, where Dick's family has summered since in 1906. Dick enjoyed fishing in the big lake, hunting deer and wood grouse, making furniture in his workshop, and sipping manhattans at cocktail hour. He especially loved "interviewing" folks in FishTown including weinheimer owners and charter boat captains. Dick truly loved Leland and shared his enthusiasm and memories with all he met. He will be truly missed. Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, daughters Sarah (Richard) Bourgeois of Traverse City, Marcelle (Scott) Harris of Bloomingdale, son Roderick (Rod) Hatt of Versailles, KY, grandchildren Aryl, Peter, Matheson, Casey, Phillip, and Lydia.
