Obituary

KINGSLEY — Richard Jack Maddy, 60, died suddenly in an auto accident Wednesday, June 16, 2010.Dick was born in Traverse City on July 13, 1949, to Richard Arthur and Babara Lucille (Davis) Maddy. In his younger years he worked as a laborer with HeyMan Construction Co. He owned and operated Maddy Farm Service and developed the Cherry Shaker. Dick also was a successful real estate broker. He loved sailing, hunting, fishing, farming, being outdoors, and playing "craps."Dick had a deep respect and appreciation for Native American culture and rituals: sweat lodges, teepees and smudging. He was an active member of A.A. since 1983. Dick was an intensely spiritual man. Dick is survived by his daughter Lisa, his son Ben, his sister Gwen, his nephew David, his niece April, his grandsons Nathan, Luis, Nicholas, and Armando, and his great-granddaughter Jasmine.Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A gathering and celebration of Dick's life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.Memorial donations can be directed to Interlochen Center for the Arts or Peshawbetown-Indian Welfare.
