Traverse City - Richard H. McKenna, 87, of Traverse City, formerly of Savannah, GA and Lansing, MI passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center on April 24, 2015 surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on December 19, 1927 in Covington, KY to the late Charles Joseph and Mary (Wieck) McKenna.
Richard served our country honorably in the United States Merchant Marines and United States Army during WWII. After returning from his time in the service, he earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Cincinnati and his MBA from Xavier University. He was the chairman of the Board of McKenna McKenna Associates, Inc. a consulting business.
On January 6, 1979, Richard married Patricia Goodman in Lansing.
Richard and Pat moved to the area in 2000. Together they enjoyed belonging to the Elks Club and the R&R Golf League. In his spare time, he also enjoyed reading. Richard was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Richard is survived by his wife Pat, his daughters Linda (William) Wesley of East Lansing, Theresa (Gary) Climes of Okemos, and Joan Strahan of Lansing; step-daughters Ann (Robert Fletcher) Goodman of Williamsburg, step-son Stuart Goodman of Lansing, grandchildren Allison Climes, Caitlin Climes, Heather (Greg) Paquette, Rachel (Lance) Bell, Lauren (Brian) Lund and Megan (Matthew) Brickner; great grandsons Lucas James, Paquette and Emmet Brickner; and brothers Joseph McKenna of Cincinnati, OH and Robert McKenna of Cold Spring, KY.
The funeral mass celebrating Richard's life will take place at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior. Following the mass, Richard will receive full military honors from the Cherryland VFW Post #2780.
Graveside services will be held at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City at a later date.
Memorial contributions in memory of Richard may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Father Fred Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
