Richard John Moravec, 87, of Traverse City, passed away on March 11, 2019 at Munson Hospice House. He was born on March 9, 1932 in Traverse City, to Rudolph and Marie Moravec. Following graduation from Traverse City Central High School in 1950, he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the 6th Infantry Regiment, stationed in Germany. His unit was responsible for the shared operation of the Spandau Prison, which housed the Nazi war criminals at the time. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Dick married Barbara Linderleaf in 1955. Together they raised two children. Dick worked at Parsons Corporation for many years. When they closed, he was employed by Belfour Stulen and the CAP Computer Center until his retirement. Dick was an accomplished woodworker, having created many beautiful pieces of furniture, cabinets and craft items. Family and friends continue to treasure them. Dick also loved to fish, spending many hours on the local lakes and Grand Traverse Bay. Quiet, soft-spoken and unassuming, he will be deeply missed by family, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Joan Nottke and Marie Vezina, and his infant son, Scott Alan Moravec.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara; his son, Michael (Sandy) Moravec of McMillan, MI and His daughter, Kerri Moravec of Traverse City.
A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Roman Barraza and the Munson Medical Center Oncology and Hospice staff, for the compassionate care provided to Dick in his final days.
