TRAVERSE CITY — Richard D. "Dick" Olson, 82, of Traverse City, formerly of Cadillac, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Cadillac, he was the son of the late Emil and Ethel (Frook) Olson. On June 3, 1950, in Cadillac, he married the former Dorothy A. Fisher.Dick retired in 1996 from Tom's Food Market, where he had been employed as a Meat Cutter for 38 years. He was a longtime dedicated member of the Grawn United Methodist Church. As his hobbies he enjoyed reading, bowling, gardening and traveling with his extended family. He also was an avid bird watcher who received great pleasure in feeding the birds and the pesky squirrels.His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his church community. He will fondly be remembered as a very giving man who always enjoyed being around others. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy A. Olson, of Traverse City; daughters, Ruth A. Anderson, of Kingsley, and Tina M. (Richard) Lewis, of Lake Ann; grandchildren, Tracey Wynn, Breeanna (David) Sanford and Sara Anderson; great-grandchildren, Madyson Lyon, Whitney Anderson and Zoe Sanford; sister, Barbara (Jack) Pallick, of Midland, Texas; along with many dear nieces and nephews.Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, July 25, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Eugene L. Baughan will officiate.In remembrance of Dick, memorials may be directed to the Grawn United Methodist Church.
