Richard Romanowski, 73, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Munson Hospice House.
Richard was born on January 2, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Alfred and Genevieve (Ciesniewski) Romanowski. After graduating from high school, he began a lengthy career in cable maintenance, working for AT&T and Michigan Bell, where his hard work and dedication were admired until his retirement in 2009.
In 2012, Richard moved from Eastpointe to Traverse City, settling on Tibbets Lake, where he embraced a more peaceful lifestyle. He enjoyed spending time tinkering in his yard, gardening, and working on various projects around the house and garage. A fan of simple pleasures, Richard loved going out to eat and watching Leave it to Beaver and The Lone Ranger. He cherished the time he spent with his beloved niece and nephew, quick to share a story about how he was naughty in his youth, referring to himself often as a 'rascal.' He was always eager to hear about their lives and was proud of their achievements. Richard was a philanthropist by nature. He genuinely believed in supporting and giving to those in need. He regularly supported the Polish Falcons, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Breast Cancer Foundation, and, more locally, The Michigan Association of Firefighters, and The Police Officers Association of Michigan. His caring and detailed sensitive nature, combined with a deep appreciation for life's quieter moments, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Richard will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family and friends.
He is survived his niece, Christie (Brent) Smith and nephew, Alan (Jamie) Romanowski, great nieces and nephews, Mason, Elliot, Henry, and Maxwell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Alfred (Joanne) Romanowski, Pauline Romanowski, and Patricia Romanowski.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at noon. A private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, alongside many of his family members.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Kindly share thoughts and memories with his family at
