Richard Wayne Dumbrille passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2024, with the love of his family surrounding him.
Rich was born May 30,1944 in Traverse City to Wayne and Alice (Sbonek) Dumbrille. He graduated from Traverse City High School in 1962 and continued his education at Central Michigan University, graduating in 1967. Following CMU, he selflessly and proudly served his country as a Sargeant in the US Marine Corp for two years. After his return, he went to work for the State of Michigan at the Traverse City State Hospital. It was there that he met Elizabeth White. Liz and Rich were married on July 30, 1971 and he was a devoted and unwavering husband. They welcomed their daughter Jennifer five years later, who was his pride and joy. He was an attentive and loving father. Rich continued his career, retiring from the Benzie County Department of Social Services in 2000.
He was an avid golfer and following retirement, he worked part time at Mistwood Golf Course, where he was able to dedicate more of his time to his favorite hobby, making the most of his lifetime membership. He enjoyed traveling to Florida, frequently visiting Disney World, particularly Epcot Center. An ice-cold Coca-Cola was never far from his hand and no, a Pepsi would not suffice. Rich was fascinated by astronomy and facts, and he enjoyed sharing his wisdom. He was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, watching Jeopardy nightly and rarely missing an answer. Perhaps his favorite role was becoming a grandpa. He was supportive, dedicated, and encouraging to his grandchildren Dustin and Madison, whom he adored spending time with. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally, and was especially close to his in-laws, who all lived within 3 miles.
He will be endearingly remembered and forever missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth; daughter: Jennifer Tandy Dezelski (Bruce); grandchildren: Dustin Tandy, Madison Neddo (Jay); great granddaughter: Quinn Tandy; brother-in-law: Terry Hardwick; sisters-in-law: Jane White, Jean Johnson, Susan White, and Valerie LoCicero; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law: Ole and Helen White; sisters Elizabeth Wos, Diane Hardwick, Cynthia Feese; and his beloved golden retriever Charlie.
Military honors and sharing will take place at 11am on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Veterans Memorial Pavilion at the Almira Township Park, 7276 Ole White Dr. Lake Ann, MI 49650. A luncheon will follow at Mistwood Golf Course.
