Richard Lewis "Rick" Pascoe passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, and the many ways he contributed to his community throughout his life. Born on September 16, 1945, in Dearborn, Michigan, Rick was known for his gentle spirit, warm humor, and the steadfast work ethic that defined both his personal and professional life. He attended Western Michigan University before pursuing his dental education at the University of Michigan Dental School. Following graduation, he completed an internship at the VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas, and then continued advanced periodontal studies at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, earning his Doctorate. His career led him to Memphis, Tennessee, where he served on staff and became Director of the Periodontal Program. In 1976, Rick established his first periodontal practice in Traverse City, Michigan, later expanding his work to Cadillac. He continued to serve patients with compassion and expertise until his retirement in 2017.
On February 18, 2000, Rick married Deborah "Debbie" (Bussema) Pascoe at Bowers Harbor Inn in Traverse City. Their marriage of 26 years was a source of great joy, support, and companionship. Rick was a devoted father to Nicole (Zach) Dean, Lauren (Dan) McGillicuddy, and Lindsay (John) Bogdarsian, and a caring stepfather to Preston (Emily) Pierson. He was lovingly called "Grandpa" by his grandchildren—Vivian, Jasper, Muriel, Nora, Ryan, Avery, Ruby, Graham, and Alec—and by his step-grandchildren Evelyn, Olivia, and Anna. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Bev) Pascoe and James (Nancy Lykins) Pascoe, and by his dear friend Bob (Diane) Portenga; and his daughters' mother, Judy Mac. Rick shared a special bond with his dog, Lewy, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
Rick lived a full and active life. He enjoyed golfing, running, biking, watercolor painting, traveling by motorcycle with Debbie, and watching sports. He cherished every moment spent with family and was a dedicated member of Faith Reformed Church since 2008. His strong work ethic, generous heart, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on November 22 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Faith Reformed Church, 1139 East Front Street, Traverse City, Michigan. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church, with a luncheon to be held afterward from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Reformed Church in Rick's honor. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home for their support and to the dedicated staff and volunteers of Faith Reformed Church—especially Trisha Novak, Michala Jamison, Tayo Oloyede, Jonathon Low, Andrea and Drew Poppleton, Penny Pardini, and the luncheon volunteers—for their care and assistance during this time. Rick's kindness, devotion, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
