Rita Wright Sedlacek, 97, of Traverse City (formerly Kingsley), passed away February 5, 2023.
She was born September 19, 1925 in Kingsley, daughter to William and Nettie (Heibel) Ockert.
Rita attended and graduated from St. Mary of Hannah Catholic Parish and School, class of 1942. Rita was devoted to the catholic faith and was a woman of prayer. She was an active and lifelong parishioner at St. Mary of Hannah.
Rita was proud of her involvement in the Rebekah Organization, holding several offices including that of Noble Grand.
She was an avid and talented quilter, crafting each child and grandchild one of her beautiful works of art. She found profound joy in hosting and cooking for her family. Rita was a loving mother and had a very definite plan for her children to be successful.
Even as busy as she was caring for family and being a faithful parishioner, she managed to have a 30-year career as a purchasing agent for United Technology, retiring in 1990.
Rita is survived by children Carolyn (James) Kik, Samuel (Cathy) Wright and Thomas (Robine) Wright; grandchildren Melissa (John) Nadeau, Laura Wright, Amy (Steve) Sommers, Jim (Becky) Kik, Bill Kik, Aaron (Deb) Wright, Cassandra (Tim) Braden, Chelsea (Ethan) Freeman; great-grandchildren Zach and Nate Sommers, Ryan, Landon and Jared Wright, Emma Kik and Hudson Wright; step-children Alice Anderson, Thomas Sedlacek, Kristine (Ray) Yanska and Steph (Lilean) Sedlacek; daughter-in-law Marcia Wright; sisters-in-law Vivian Ockert and Marilyn Rodes and many other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Allan Wright, deceased April 19, 1999, and Raymond Sedlacek, deceased April 22, 2017; son William Wright, and siblings Valita Boehniein, Veronica Muth, Teresa VanPelt, Rose Schmuckal and Alice Cleland.
Visitation, Wednesday, February 8, 4-7 pm, rosary at 6:30 pm, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, February 9,11:00 am, at St. Mary of Hannah. Visitation one hour prior to Mass. For more information visit
