Rita Smith, a long-time resident of Dearborn Heights passed away onto her next adventure on September 1, 2022, with her family by her side.
Rita was born on July 15, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Phillip and Beatrice (Powers) Smith. She was proceeded in death by her brothers; Owen and Phil and her sisters; Doris and Shirly. She attended St. Cecilia's Parish Schools through to her graduation in 1954 from St. Cecilia High School. She and her sister Shirley were in the same graduating class and were the first female High School graduates in their family. This was a very special achievement for them. Rita worked for several businesses but then spent most of her professional career as a bookkeeper and office manager for Adray Appliance in Dearborn.
Above all else Rita loved God and her family. Rita was a devout Catholic and would attend mass several times a week at her beloved church, St. Albert's. She built her life around her faith and her family. Rita was the very best Aunt, Sister, Friend, and neighbor. She will forever be remembered as Aunt "Reetie" to her nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
Rita will always be cherished for all the late-night calls she took, playing cards, for taking bus trips with friends and family, going to Tiger games, sleepovers, tea and toast and for being a milestone for every child in the family: when were you taller than Aunt Rita? Mostly she will be remembered for the love she gave us all.
