Robert "R.L. Bob" Ingersoll, 87, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 27, 2014, with family members by his side. Bob was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Traverse City, to his parents, the late Leo Ingersoll and Margaret Petrofsky.

Bob and Marian (Wagner) were married in Flint, Michigan on June 26, 1948 and spent 66 years together raising family and seeing the world together.

Bob served proudly in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Eberle for his tour of duty as a torpedo man primarily serving in the Pacific.

Bob's entire career was spent with the sales and marketing departments of Buick Motor Division with positions in New Hampshire, Boston, Washington DC, Newark, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago and Flint, Michigan. In retirement he enjoyed the family home on Lake Leelanau, growing Christmas trees and his affiliation with the American Legion Bowen Holiday Post 35.

Bob is survived by his wife Marian of Traverse City, son Rick of Hilton Head Island. SC, daughter Karen Aldridge of Drummond Island, MI and six grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Linda Cebula and grandson Timothy Ingersoll.

The family is extremely grateful for the loving and tender care provided by the staff of Orchard Creek Supportive Care.

A private family service will be held Saturday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial contributions be made in his name to the American Legion post of Traverse City, The Wounded Warriors Project or the Hospice Foundation of Michigan.
