Robert “Bob” Lorne Winslow, 88, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026 peacefully at his home of 16 months in Traverse City MI, Michigan, after a nine day battle with pneumonia.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 28, 1937 to Dorothy Payne and Walter “Mickey” Winslow. The family moved from Calgary to Long Beach, California when Bob was 11, joining cousins, aunts and uncles.
After high school he joined the Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge papers at Travis AFB in California. While stationed there, he attended Vallejo Junior College, meeting and ultimately marrying Edith Damian, bringing three children into their family. He graduated from Sacramento State with a BS degree and a Masters from Santa Clara University as an electronics engineer. His career involved working for a series of tech industries in Silicon Valley.
He married Elaine in 1976 and they shared interests in traveling, connecting with the Alberta cousins, and building houses. That challenge included the Santa Cruz mountains, and the Sierra foothills (Colfax), which extended into assisting the contractor building 14 custom homes. His hobby there was building rock fountains, creating 5 on the property, and sharing them with friends.
In 2004 they took the big leap to Columbia Falls, Montana, where they purchased a finished home, adding his creative spirit to the landscaping above the flowing Flathead River.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his son Brian, and step grandson Dominic.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his daughters Laura and Susan (Scott) and stepdaughter Robin, grandchildren, Jimmy, Vincent, and Dante.
In his memory, he encourages us to honor science, protect and treasure the environment.
