TRAVERSE CITY — Robert S. "Bob" Coors, 91, passed away at Munson Hospice House Aug. 1, 2010.He was born Aug. 24, 1918, in Long Island, N.Y., to the late D Stanley and Margaret Coors. He grew up in Michigan, in numerous towns where his Dad was a Methodist minister. Upon graduating from University of Michigan with a MBA in accounting in June 1941, he immediately entered the U.S. Navy. He served stateside, and also in the South Pacific, northern Africa and Italy, and helped develop and implement a new Navy payroll system used during World War II.In 1948 he married Betty L. O'Brien. They shared 58 years of marriage together, living and working in Lansing and Milwaukee, raising their three children. Most of his working career he was with C&J Transport in Milwaukee. Upon retiring, he and Betty spent 21 years in San Diego before coming to Traverse City to be near their son and their home on Torch Lake.Surviving Bob are his daughter, Susan Weinzapfel of Euless, Texas; son, Richard Coors of Traverse City; son, Donald Coors of Little Chute Wis.; grandchildren, Amy McClure, Bob Weinzapfel, Stephen Weinzapfel, Andrea Santini, David Coors; and great-grandchildren, Colton McClure and Vincent Santini.Bob will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
