Traverse City - Bob Deering, 89, of Traverse City passed away October 12, 2015 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on December 3, 1925 in Traverse City to the late George A. and Margaret M. (McGarry) Deering.
Bob was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church. His strong faith guided him throughout his life and helped him to face his many challenges. He enjoyed his daily meal at J&S Hamburg where the staff became like family. He loved looking at the photos of his many nieces and nephews and they covered every wall of his home. Bob was proud of his independence and he enjoyed helping the residents of Riverview Terrace where he lived for many years. He was a kind and gentle soul with hearty laugh and loved telling and hearing a good joke.
Bob was employed for many years as a custodian at Park Place Motor Inn, Kresge 5 & 10 Store, and the St. Francis Catholic Schools.
Bob is survived by his brothers Don Deering of Traverse City and Patrick (Marge) Deering of Palms Spring, CA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Margaret (Peggy) Hemming and Ruth Dent.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church or The Father Fred Foundation.
