TRAVERSE CITY — Robert James "Bob" Fitzgerald, 82, of Cedar, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 7, 2011, at Munson Medical Center. Born June 8, 1929, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of the late Thomas James and Leola Pearl (McCarthy) Fitzgerald.Bob proudly served his country with the United States National Guard during the Korean War.He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Cherry Capital Model A Restorers Club.Prior to his retirement, Bob and his father established a very successful company in Grand Rapids named Fitzgerald Die and Mold and later established American Die and Mold in Traverse City.Bob was a very creative man who had many interests and leisure pursuits including traveling, rebuilding Antique Classic Cars, inventing various gadgets, collecting Lionel Trains, camping and telling stories by the campfire. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann (Rosinski) Fitzgerald, of Traverse City; seven children, Therese Steinebach, of Canutillo, Texas, Ellen (Chuck) Kunisch, of Jeddo, Karyn Fitzgerald, of Cedar, Annette (Ed) Kandel, of Maple City, Paul (Julie) Fitzgerald, of Onekama, Ken Fitzgerald, of Maple City, and Dan (Joyce) Fitzgerald, of Conklin; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Thomas (Grace) Fitzgerald, of Caledonia, Leola Marcusse, of Grand Rapids, and Evelyn Ringenberg, of Caledonia; stepchildren, Todd and Ann (Mark); brother-in-law, Don Weiland, of California; along with many nieces and nephews.Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Schmitt) Fitzgerald, who died in 1986; sister, Geri Weiland; and brothers-in-law, Hank Marcusse and Chris Ringenberg.Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, Nov. 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Anthony Citro will serve as the celebrant.
