Obituary

Robert Weller Foster, 83, of Suttons Bay, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on Saturday, January 31, 1931 in Lansing, the son of George M. and Norena (Weller) Foster. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Bob was an outstanding athlete, attending East Lansing High School and received his B.S. degree in business administration from Michigan State University in 1953. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and graduated as a lieutenant in the Air Force ROTC. After graduation Bob served two years with the Air Force, stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador.

After military duty, Bob was hired by National Cash Register Company as a salesman in their banking division. In 1965, he established his own business, Data Machines Company in Ann Arbor and then went on to purchase Northern Cash Register Sales in Traverse City, in 1980. He continued to be active in both businesses until 1995 when he retired.

Bob was an active member in community organizations. He was a trustee of Scio Township in Ann Arbor for 14 years and was instrumental in the creation and funding of the Junior Wolverine Youth Football Program. Later Bob was president of the Ann Arbor Pioneers Booster Club. He was a loyal and dedicated fan of Spartan football and an active member of the Republican Party. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the Golden K (Kiwanis). Lastly Bob served as supervisor of Bingham Township in Leelanau County from 2004 until 2006.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He enjoyed several big game hunts and Canadian fishing trips. His greatest joy was being a member of the "Roundhouse 40" hunting camp.

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Walcott) Foster, his son Robert Walcott (Stacey) Foster, his daughter, Carol Jean Foster, two grandsons, Geoffrey Michael Foster and William Foster Loesel as well as his great-granddaughter, Reagan Emerson Loesel.
