Traverse City - Robert G. Fisher, 98, of Traverse City passed away May 20, 2014 at Munson Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Robert was born on August 14, 1915 in Traverse City to the late Eugen and Isabel (Baatz) Fisher.
Robert married Edna B. Bartlett on March 4, 1937 in Traverse City.
Robert honorably served in the United States Navy from 1941 - 1943. He was a life long resident of Traverse City. Robert and Edna started the Eastfield Shopping Center which included Fishers Food Market and Beverage Store, Ben Franklin Store and multiple other buildings which helped make up the shopping center. He also built the Buick Garage and Skate World.
In his younger years Robert enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada. Together he and Edna "wore out" five motorhomes! He was a true outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Robert was a life long member of the Elks Club #323 and the Masonic Lodge #222.
Robert is survived by his son William "Bill" E. (Sherry) Fisher, of Traverse City, granddaughter Tracy Lee Mims and one great grandson Marshall W. Collins, both of Henderson,Tx., brother Jerry (Betty) Fisher of Interlochen, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his brothers Johnny, Dale, Don and Frank.
Funeral services will take place for Robert at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery where he will receive full military honors from VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
