Traverse City, MI – Robert Brinklow, 80, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on October 5, 2015 at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing Center.

Robert was born on February 24, 1935 in Goshen, IN to the late Reginald A. and Catharine V. (Allen) Brinklow.

Robert was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, the National Eagle Scout Honor Society.

On June 26, 1955, Robert married Mary Ann Gill at the First Methodist Church in Goshen after dating in high school and playing French horn in the band together under the direction of Reginald.

Bob graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor in Education. He later earned a Master in Education Administration from Wayne State University.

Bob served in the Intelligence Branch of the Army Reserves for several years during the Korean conflict through the University of Indiana and the University of Detroit.

He and Mary Ann moved to Wyandotte, MI where he taught Biology and Chemistry at Roosevelt High School and was later the assistant principal. They later moved to Milan, MI where Bob was principal of the high school. In 1996, he retired and they moved to Traverse City. In their spare time, Bob and Mary Ann enjoyed the beauty of the Traverse City area, trips to Florida and to the British Isles. Bob loved music and belonged to several groups, including the Presbyterian Church Choir, a barbershop quartet and also participated in the production of the Music Man at the Old Town Playhouse in Traverse City. Bob was also a proud member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Ann, children Douglas (Susan) of Traverse City; David (Debra) of Chelsea, MI; Dianne Newberry (Troy) of Saline, MI; and Steven (Matthew) of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Aaron (Lindsey), Katelyn, Ashlyn, Kelsey, Ian, Eric, and Meagan; sister-in-law Nancy of Laporte, IN, and many other family members and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother Allen and sister Regina.

Bob will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 AM at the Violet Cemetery in Goshen, where his nephew Rev. Edwin Brinklow will officiate.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Presbyterian Church in Traverse City. Rev. William Myers will officiate. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 AM with a lunch following the service.

Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to the Presbyterian Church Choir of Traverse City or to the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Traverse City.
