It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Howard Burgin, 66, of Rapid City, Michigan, who passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his home.
Bob was born on August 12, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jay Glen Burgin and Mary Louise Howard. As an only child, he grew up in Detroit with many fond memories before moving to Bellaire, Michigan, where he graduated from Bellaire High School in 1976. His passion for learning led him to pursue higher education, earning an associate degree in accounting and business management from Northwestern Michigan College in 1982, followed by a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from Michigan Technological University in 1985.
Bob was an entrepreneur at heart, venturing into business with his father in 1977, where he worked in land development and real estate for the remainder of his life. He also recalled the time he enjoyed as a ski instructor at Shanty Creek Resort as well as having owned and operated a limousine company early in his life. Bob was dedicated to his community, serving on numerous boards over the years, including Rotary International, The National Trout Festival, a founding committee member of the KART Trail development, the Village of Kalkaska Planning Commission, and Downtown Development Authority, always striving to make a positive impact in his community.
Bob had a love for the outdoors and found peace spending time in nature, whether driving off-road vehicles or simply enjoying the peace and serenity of his property. He was particularly fond of sharing his favorite spots in the woods with family and friends, offering a glimpse of the natural beauty he so deeply cherished. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his beloved grandson, Romero.
Above all, Bob was known for his sense of humor. He could always be counted on for a good joke or a memorable movie line, and his ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him was one of his most cherished qualities.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Amanda Burgin and Mary (Michael Teichman) Burgin; his son, Eric (Daniel Strong) Burgin; and his grandson, Romero Burgin, and step-daughter Brandy Case. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Glen Burgin and Mary Louise Howard.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Monday, March 24th at Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City with a viewing from 10-11AM and the service following from 11AM-12PM.
Bob's legacy of laughter, love for nature, and deep commitment to his family and community will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed.
