Obituary

Traverse City – Robert James Hunsaker, 93, of Interlochen passed away on March 10, 2016 at the Villas at Traverse Point.

Robert was born March 29, 1922 to Edward and Violet (Davis) Hunsaker in Detroit, MI.

On March 19, 1942 Robert enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and saw action in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. He participated in action against the enemy at Tarawa, Gilbert Islands, Saipan and Marianas Islands, twice wounded in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart, and in lieu of the 2nd Purple Heart was awarded the Gold Star. He received many other awards and commendations for his service to his Country.

After his time in the service, Robert moved to Detroit and was a Lieutenant with Squad #2 with the Detroit Fire Department. He retired in 1971 and moved to Traverse City. He enjoyed spending time with his family during his retirement years, but especially loved the time that he was able to share with Dawn, the love of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Dawn (Holmes) Hunsaker, 6 children, 2 step-children and many grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Violet Hunsaker.
