Robert "Grumpy" J. Blaser, a lifelong resident of Traverse City passed away July 22, 2020. He was born Yuba, March 1, 1938, son to Jack and Inez (Stoops).
Robert was the kind of guy who loved to help people. He enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn something.
In his early years Robert served in the US Airforce as a mechanic. He owned and operated a shop in Traverse City. Afterwards he started a construction company and ran that for many years as a licensed contractor and draftsman. Following retirement, he simply could not sit still, so he started making elaborate doll houses and rocking horses. His level of craftsmanship was painstaking and precise. His family meant the world to him and was proud of each one of them.
Robert leaves behind his children Charles Blaser, Rose Marie Howey Amy (Tad) Cook and Virginia (Michael) Szymanski; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; siblings Donald "Jim," Vada Baatz and Evelyn Hawkins; his cousin Patsy, who is like a sister to him, as well as other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elizabeth; daughter Cynthia James and brother Richard Blaser.
A service honoring Robert will take place Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11AM, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, outside in the garden. Family and friends may visit from 10AM until the time of service.
Memorials are to be directed to the American Cancer Society.
