Traverse City - Robert John Sabol, 86, of Traverse City passed away August 15, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Bob was born on December 30, 1930 in Cleveland, OH to the late John and Florence (Ausperk) Sabol.

On February 27, 1954, Bob married the love of his life, Laura B. Allam in Oscoda, Michigan. They made their home in the Cleveland area for many years before moving to the Detroit area and finally to Traverse City.

Bob served our country honorably as a member of the United States AirForce during the Korean Conflict.
He was a sales representative for Honeywell Heating and Air Conditioning Controls Manufacturing, and upon moving to Michigan, became Vice-President of Calverly Supply in Sterling Hts. In Traverse City, Bob was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and served as a volunteer at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed playing golf and hit his hole in one at the Bear at Grand Traverse Resort. Although not his favorite activity, Bob was also a runner for several years and occasionally won his age group in the Cherry Festival 5K. He was an enthusiastic philatelist and liked folk, country, blues, jazz and classical music. At many Christmases and other holidays, he and his brothers sang Slovak music for their families and friends. He and his wife Laura loved to dance and often surprised their children with their skill. Summers often included traveling to Kelley's Island and fishing with his father and brothers. Bob will be remembered as a very compassionate man with a great sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his wife Laura of 63 years, daughters Carole (Chris) McKee of Traverse City, Barbara Specht of Findlay, OH, and Katheryn Botello of Ann Arbor; grandchildren Kimberly Specht, Kyle McKee, Alexzandra Botello and Michael Botello; and brother John (Jeanne) Sabol. Bob was preceded in death by his brother Dan.

The service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation held at 10:00 am.
