Obituary

Robert "Bob" Lee Stachnik, 91, lifelong resident of Maple City passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Maple Valley Nursing Home.
Bob was born the first month of the ninth day in 1931. He was born to the late Lawrence and Margaret Louise (Skellet) Stachnik in Traverse City, Michigan. He was the oldest of three sons. He married the love of his life Violet F. Mann in Rapid City, Michigan on April 7, 1956. Together they lovingly raised one daughter Debra.
After graduating from Leland High School in the class of 1950 he honorably served our country in the United States Air Force. After his return from service he worked for the Leelanau County Road Commission as a foreman and truck driver, retiring in 1992. He knew Leelanau County roads better than anyone. Bob had a great sense of humor and above all spending time with family was his greatest joy. After retirement, Bob and Violet spent the winter months in Grand Haven, Florida enjoying the warmer weather and great friendships.
Bob was a proud charter member of the Maple City Lion's Club and a huge Detroit Tigers fan. He says the best day of his life was when he was in high school and his team, the Leland Comets, won the State Basketball championship. In his spare time, Bob could be found playing cards-mainly Euchre at the Senior Center in Traverse City, shuffle boarding, watching Tiger baseball, fishing, gardening, attending Glen Lake football and basketball games, and spending time with family and friends.
Bob was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He is survived by his daughter Debra Gorman of Leesburg, Florida and in-laws Noreena and Allen Scott, Francy and Alvin Moran, Richard Moran and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Violet of 66 years in 2021, brothers Darwin (Maxine) Stachnik, Donald (Opal) Stachnik, his son-in-law Richard Gorman, and nephew Bobby Stachnik.
