Robert Joseph Lewis of Traverse City passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home in Traverse City. He was 86.
He was born on April 18, 1927 in Highland Park, the only child of Joseph S. and Minnie V. (Nelson) Lewis, both who have preceded him in death. On November 19, 1951, he married Katherine J. Peterson, who preceded him in death June 12, 2004. Bob and Katherine lived in the Detroit area for many years and following their retirement in 1987, they moved to the Traverse City area.
Bob was the former manager of Export Credit and Manager of Finance and Administration International Parts, Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. He was a graduate of Cooley High School, Michigan State University and the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College.
A veteran of WW II, he served 13 months in Italy. After 42 years of active and reserve assignments, he retired with the rank of Colonel, Field Artillery. His last two assignments were with the Assistant Chief of Staff Intelligence DA and the Inspector General, Department of the Army, Washington, D. C. He was a life member of Detroit Lodge No. 2 F & AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of the U. S. Army, Military Order of World Wars and National Sojourners. He was also a member of The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
Graveside services will take place at 10 AM, Saturday, August 17, at Acacia Park Cemetery, 31300 Southfield Rd., Beverly Hills, MI.
