Obituary

Robert "Robbie" Stephen Detwiler, 34, of Traverse City passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. The family is so thankful to the Munson staff for the wonderful care and compassion to Robbie and his family while he was being treated.
Robbie was born on August 27, 1982 in Traverse City, the son of Jody (Williams) and Steve Detwiler.
After graduating from Traverse City Central High School, he attended the University of Detroit Mercy where he earned a masters degree in architecture. His love and passion for design was a dream come true. He was employed at Cornwell Architects in Traverse City. Robbie truly felt blessed to work with such an amazing firm and associates.
Robbie married his best friend and the "LOVE" of his life, Laura Lynn Berro on August 15, 2015. He was incredibly excited and proud to become a father. Their son, Landyn Robert Detwiler is due in April.
Robbie's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, dog, family, cousins and friends. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed boating (being on the water). Fantasy football was indeed his favorite past time with Tom Brady being his all time favorite player. Robbie was a huge fan of sports, especially Michigan football and basketball.
Robbie was truly one of a kind, his perpetual smile and kind heart made an imprint on everyone he met. A true gentleman in every sense, with impeccable manners, his friendly personality, strong work ethic, integrity and character were a few of his most admired qualities. Besides being a terrific man, wonderful husband, son, brother and friend, Robbie would have been an outstanding father.
Our strong warrior fought a tough battle very courageously. He continued to fight day in and out, telling the doctors he wasn't going to give up hope. A role model indeed and his entire journey made him a hero to all. Robbie made this world a better place and to sum it up, he was "Simply Sensational!!!"
Robbie is survived by his loving wife Laura, his soon to be born son, Landyn; his mother and stepfather, Jody and Ken Berg; his father Steve Detwiler, sister and brother in law and nephew, Lindsey, Jesse and George Jones, his step brother and sister in law Ryan and Beth Berg; his mother and father in law, Diane and Lyle Berro; and brother in law Travis Berro. Robbie is also survived by his grandparents, Dr. George and Scottie Williams, Chris Detwiler and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elaine Williams, Donna and Jack Williams and Robert Detwiler.
A celebration of Robbie's life will begin with a visitation, Friday, Feb 17 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The memorial service will take place at 4:00 PM, Saturday, Feb. 18 at Central United Methodist Church, with Pastor Chris Lane officiating.
Rather than flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations in Robbie's name to a trust fund for his son Landyn, c/o Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684 or to Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9899 Main Street, Suite 204, Damascus, Maryland 20872 or on-line at www.curesarcoma.org/donate .
