Robert "Bob" Shaw

Traverse City, Died April 3, 2023

Robert "Bob" Arthur Shaw. Born May 28, 1931, in Kansas City, MO, to adoptive parents, Paul Gilbert Shaw and Mary Katherine Landon.

The family moved to Traverse City in 1942 after purchasing property in Yuba, MI. They grew alfalfa and potatoes on the bottom land of Yuba Creek while clearing the upper land for cherries. That property is now the Yuba Creek Natural Area. Farmland along Sayler Road, Lautner Road, and M-72 was added later, as well as the construction and management of Elk Rapids Packing Company.

Bob graduated from Traverse City High School in 1949, then attended and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Agriculture. Part of the ROTC program, he served as a Captain in the Air Force, claiming the best and worst place he was stationed was Tin City in far northern Alaska.

Bob was an avid sailboat racer in both the Great Lakes and ocean racing circuits. He was also a very enthusiastic fly fisherman and all-around outdoorsman.

Bob and his wife Kathryn (Katie) moved to Montana in the late 1990s, living first in Victor, then settling in Bozeman.

Bob is preceded in death by parents, Paul and Mary; brother John, and beloved wife Kathryn.

He is survived by his children, Heather (Duncan), Laurie (Mark), and Campbell (Christina); six grandchildren, Zinzi (Edward), Jennifer (Samuel), Noah (Diarmaid), Tajín, Hart, and Paulina; and two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Beckett; also sister-in-law Eleanor Shaw, and first wife, Sondra Shaw Hardy. Bob is stepfather to Colin Hall and Sarah (Hall) Thompson, as well as step-grandchildren, Andrew, Hunter, and Mackenzie.

At his request, no formal services will be held.
