Robert J. "Bob" Sommerville, 85, of Traverse City and Green Valley, AZ passed away at home, surrounded by family on August 22nd, 2024. He was born to the late Martin and Gyneth (Morey) Sommerville on December 11, 1938 in Traverse City. Bob Married Susan Holcomb in 1962 and they had four children, Matthew, Cymbre (Sam) Foster, Cymantha (John) Kostecki and Heather (Jesse) Rollo.

Bob became interested in architecture at an early age and after graduating from T.C. Central High School in 1965 worked as a draftsman and attended NMC until receiving his State of Michigan registration as an architect after years of experience and self study. Bob co-founded AAI, Inc. – Architects in 1975 and continued in that practice until closing the office and retiring in 2018.

Bob enjoyed camping, boating, woodworking, and lapidary. He and Susan spent parts of winters in Green Valley, AZ for 30 years.

Bob leaves his wife of 62 years, Susan, daughters Cymbre, Cymantha, and Heather, and six grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son Matthew and brothers John and Tom Sommerville.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place on November 9th, from 2-4pm at the Traverse City Elks Club. 625 Bay St, Traverse City 49684. All are welcome.
