Obituary

Roberta Ann Cox, 85, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025.
Bobbi was born on January 20, 1940 in Pontiac to the late James and Eva (Malone) Hunt. She grew up alongside her siblings Jim, Frances and her twin sister Jeannine all of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband John.
She valued education and earned her Master's degree and worked in the Detention Center where she was a state child care worker and shift supervisor. She then went on to be the Director of St. Clair County Children' Shelter for over 20 years. She was also past President of Michigan Juvenile Detention Association. She was a member of the Michigan Neglect Abuse Council. She started and lead the St. Clair County Day-treatment and night watch program. This program was the pilot program for the state of Michigan and was eventually adopted by many counties. She was a true pioneer. In her own words she shared that she tried throughout her career to make a difference in the lives of children over her 29 years in the field.
Bobbi was active with the Port Huron United Methodist Church for 35 years. She enjoyed fellowship with the Emmaus Community for 20 years and was a faithful member of the God Squad with her dear friends Pastor Bonnie and Gay. She also belonged to the Terra Street Prayer Group that prayed for first responders and health care workers during Covid and this fellowship continued until the time of her passing. She often remarked what a blessing her neighbors had been in her life.
Throughout her life she always put others before herself. She was a great mom, friend and neighbor. She also enjoyed crafting and baking. On many occasions she took treats to local fire and police departments and Munson as her way of saying thank you. In her younger years she enjoyed golfing, reading and volunteer work.
One of the great joys of her life was traveling to Guatemala twice. She was so honored to help three young girls with their education through the nonprofit Mission Impact.
Bobbi is survived by her sons John and Jim; daughters-in-law Holli and Susan; grandchildren Maggie and Matt Garvin, Amy Cox, and Oliver Benedict Giron, Marc Kristofer Giron, Antonio Jose Giron; great granddaughter Katie Ruth Garvin; brother-in-law Jerry Cox and niece Katie and nephew Tim.
A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2026 at Boones Long Lake at 12 noon. (7208 Secor Road, Traverse City, MI, 49685).
