Roger Steffes, 83, native of Traverse City, passed away July 25, 2023 at Munson Medical Center.
Rog was born on September 21, 1939 to the late Herman and Emma (Korb). He was one of two children.
He was the gentlest of souls and also of tongue. A man of few words, but always deep in thought and in projects. Rog was never one to sit idle and could be found on his John Deere, in the yard, on the roof or at the Buckley Steam Engine Show as an exhibitor. He was a neat freak by nature and never left home without a flannel on.
Roger proudly served our Country in the US Army and I do believe his family would say served them even better.
His cherished bride of 60 years, Loreen, was originally the sweet setup from both of their fathers when they were just toddlers. They missed each other from age 3 until 19 but from then on have been inseparable.
A time of prayer will take place on Saturday August 12, 2023 from 1-1:30pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home followed immediately by proper military honors. The family will continue greeting friends during an open house until 4pm also at the funeral home.
The family has expressed that they are wanting to honor Roger the way that is most fitting for him- everyone is encouraged to wear flannel or something John Deere.
Roger is survived by his wife Loreen, his sons Roger J (Tara) and Terry (Ellen), daughter Lori (Dan) Goodrich, sister Carol Canfield, as well as grandchildren; Ryan (Bethany), Andrew, Jacob, Riley, Hannah, Regina and Emma and great granddaughter Raylynn.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Those wishing an expression of sympathy may choose to contribute to his family.
