Roger retired as an Executive VP and Board Member after working for various companies in four different states throughout his career. His professional career started at Chrysler Corp. and ended when he retired from Omni Forge Inc. He was fortunate to have worked with many talented and dedicated people whom he admired and enjoyed.
His passions included foremost spending time with his family and friends followed by domestic and international travel, cooking, fishing, boating, golfing, baseball, bowling, tennis, card games, casino gambling, video games, stained glass, gardening, reading, and exploring the world with his iPad. Family pets, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers were other sources of joy in his life. Roger and Genelle renewed their wedding vows in August 2013 on Mackinaw Island. Although Roger's faith was Lutheran, he enjoyed attending churches of various faiths. Roger's last road trip was during the Fall of 2013 when visiting Canada and the Northeastern USA. His favorite place was Houghton Lake Michigan. Roger was lucky to have his best buddies Ed Oswald and Bob Douglas in his life from the time they were young children.
In 2007, Roger and Genelle moved to Traverse City to care for his ailing mother. His friends and neighbors were amazed how well he cared for his mother for five years. Less than one month after his mother's passing, he found out that his cancer had metastasized. His courageous battle began in earnest. Roger was very thankful that the medical community in Traverse City was so professional and caring. He was especially thankful for the excellent care provided to him the last two and a half years by the doctors and nurses with the Munson Oncology, Munson Hospital and Munson Hospice Home Care groups.
Per Roger's wishes there will not be a visitation or funeral. Reynolds Jonkhoff will make arrangements for Roger's cremation. A "Celebration of Life Party" will take place at a later date. Please sign Roger's online guestbook at
