TRAVERSE CITY — Rollin Karl Nice, 74, of Grawn, formerly of Manistee, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, 2011, at Tendercare of Traverse City, surrounded and comforted by his family.Born Jan. 15, 1937, in Manistee, he was the son of Louis Alex and Meata Emily (Schultz) Nice. On Aug. 3, 1973, in the family driveway overlooking the woods, he married the former Nancy Jean Vandergriff.Rollin proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during and just after the Korean War.He retired in 1995 from Sheffer-Collet, where he worked as a machinist for nearly 30 years.Rollin was a very active man who enjoyed roller skating, hunting and fishing. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family and his frequently used phrase, "Bah Humbug". Rollin is survived by his wife and best friend of 38 years, Nancy J. Nice, of Grawn; children, Rocky (Lisa) Nice, of Florida, Faith (Earle) Tarrant, of Scottville, Kyle (Susan) Nice, of Texas, Kandi (Dan) Gauthier, of Mesick, Lona Bickel, of Ohio, and Barbara Ann Simrau, of Frankfort; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Terry (David) Tetzlaaff, of Manistee; brother, Robert L. Nice, of Kingsley; great-aunt, Katherine Schultz, of Manistee; many nieces, nephews and cousins; along with his loyal pets, Maykale and Whitetoes.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.Funeral services will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at 1 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Jim Holweda will officiate. Military honors will follow under the auspices of the V.F.W.
