Rose Mary Barnes, 85, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021. Rose Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Troy with her brother and two sisters.

After graduating from Clawson High School, she entered Michigan State College where she earned a bachelor of science degree in medical technology. There, she met her future husband, Dennis. They were married at the Guardian Angels church in Clawson, MI on August 2, 1958.

She worked in medical labs in Menominee, MI and Traverse City. With three young boys, she decided to be a stay-at-home mother. She mentored them thru Boy Scouts to their eagle scout rank and then thru college.

Each year we vacationed with her sister's family, tent camping in the Rockies, Canada, or the eastern states. Upon retirement, we traveled in a RV to visit family. She overcame a fear of flying and toured China. Square dancing was an activity she loved and did for many years. As a founding member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she was active in many of its ministry's.

Rose Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dennis; their children David (Deb) Barnes, Zane (Kathleen) Barnes and Michael (Karen) Barnes; grandchildren Penny, Scott, Matthew, Meleane, Alissa, Kevin; great-grandson, William.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother; Genevieve, Irene and Francis and granddaughter, Sarah.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.
