Obituary

Roseann Marie Pihl (McDonald) aged 87 passed away peacefully in Traverse City, MI on June 28, 2026. Born in Manistee County, MI on August 20, 1938 and raised in Marilla, MI, she was loved by all and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four children, Tim, Marty, Joe and Kristen, respective spouses Shelly, Lori and her nine grandchildren, Rockwell, Megan, Thomas, Joseph, Troy, Logan, Jake, Nicole, Caroline and two great granddaughters, Annalise and Emilia. In addition, she is survived by her sister Kathleen, and brothers Patrick and Kevin.

Roseann had a successful, and long tenured 50-year career as a registered nurse, befitting her demeanor as a loving, caring and a generous person in all aspects of her life. Following her college studies and earning a degree as a registered nurse in Pittsburgh, PA, she married Wayne Pihl and moved to Grand Rapids, MI whereby she began her nursing career and where she and Wayne began to raise a young family of four before relocating to Cincinnati, OH. Roseann continued her full-time career at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont, OH, expanding her professional career in becoming a nurse specializing in oncology and the treatment of cancer patients.

Roseann raised a loving family in the Charter Oak neighborhood of Cincinnati, she was a devout parishioner at St. Vincent Ferrer and while working full-time continued to support a growing family, enjoyed gardening, neighborhood dinner parties and active travel with family. Following the growth and relocation of her children, Roseann and Wayne enjoyed their empty nest and post-retirement years sailing their boat “FinnIrish” on Lake Erie, they enjoyed multiple trips to Europe and spent many winters over three decades on their beloved Acapulco Bay, whereby Roseann enjoyed time with their international friends, playing championship bocce ball on the beach and warm winters on the bay.

Roseann and Wayne subsequently relocated to the Woodwinds Circle community in Traverse City in 2011, where they further enjoyed post-retirement years with family, friends and neighbors. They were devout members of the local St Francis parish and cherished their post-retirement life in Traverse City.

Per Roseann’s request, she would like family and friends to recall her life in loving memory. The family will be holding a private celebration of life at a future date and in lieu of a funeral service, donations can be made in her name to a local “meals on wheels” charity.
