Ross Robert French, 80, of Traverse City, Grawn and Galion, OH, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Munson Hospice House in Traverse City surrounded by family.
Ross was born on October 24, 1931 to the late Willard and Hazel (Ross) French in Pittsfield, MA.
He entered into marriage with the former Maxine June Bohn on May 23, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City; the same church Maxine was Baptized, confirmed, and attended. Ross was preceded in death by his bride of over 54 years in 2008.
Ross proudly served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. As a Veteran, Ross, served as a nuclear weapons field test engineer and maintained his patriotism as a member of the American Legion and VFW. Ross was associated with the AEC, Atomic Energy Commission and made his living with the U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed writing and creating poetry, was a student of military history and spent much time traveling in years past.
Ross is survived by his two sons, Colin French of Grawn, MI, and Keith French of Kingsley, MI, two grandchildren, Chardonay and Makayla, one brother, David (Mary) French, several nieces and nephews as well as other loving family members and friends.
Ross was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, his parents, brothers, Ronald French, James French and Willard French.
Per his wish cremation has taken place and a military committal service will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
