Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Russell Raymond Faber passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at his home in Orchard Creek Assisted Living in Traverse City.He was born on July 16, 1930, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Russell Faber Sr. and Mildred (Brown) Faber. He graduated from Henry Ford Trade School and went into the U.S. Navy from July 1947 to August 1968, serving aboard destroyer ships and then becoming a teacher of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare.After retiring from the Navy, he returned to Detroit and was a manager and troubleshooter for McDonald's. He then moved to Kewadin and helped construct homes and decided to build his own home in 1975. After completing his home, he worked for the Elk Rapids School District as a bus driver and bus supervisor for 11 years before retiring in 1986.In 1951 he was married in Malden, Mass., to Joanne Ferraro; they had four daughters.He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Nancy Anderson; his daughter Doreen Faber; and grandson Joey Lacerda.He is survived by his loving daughters Darlene (Jim Korener), of Florida, Debra (George Cardoza), of Rhode Island, Donna Silva, of Arkansas; his loving sister Shirley (William DeJoseph), of Michigan; his grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his loving Orchard Creek family, residents and assistants.He enjoyed being with his family, playing cards, bingo and watching baseball.Burial will take place at a later date according to the family wishes. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
