WILLIAMSBURG - Ruth Ann Ackerman, age 76, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 11, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born on April 20, 1940 in Pszczyna, Poland to the late Alujzego and Maria (Zawierucha) Wojciech who both passed away in the war with Germany.
After receiving her cosmetology training in Poland she moved to Germany with her Grandmother and two aunts to be near an uncle that had previously moved to Germany. Ruth immigrated from Germany to the USA where she stayed with her aunt and uncle in Harper Woods, MI., she became a naturalized citizen on June 5, 1973.
Ruth met William Francis Ackerman in Detroit and after William graduated Dental school, they married in Detroit on May 3, 1970, and then moved to Traverse City, where Dr. Ackerman opened a dental practice. Ruth not only did her Cosmetology but also helped William with the dental practice as well. She loved her flowers, and she had a green thumb that could grow anything. She enjoyed the squirrels and other animals that she was able to feed and watch in the backyard. She loved playing cards and most of all loved her two grand-daughters with all her heart.
Ruth is survived by her husband William; sons, Ryan Ackerman of Daytona Beach, FL., Jeffrey (Margo) Ackerman and grand-daughters, Abigail and Alexsis of Traverse City, Timothy Ackerman of Williamsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Christ The King Catholic Church in Williamsburg, with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
